Nowadays in an era of rapid technological advancement and constant information flow, digital and media literacy have become essential skills across all age groups. These abilities, understanding how media is created, recognizing misinformation, and navigating digital platforms safely, are foundational to participating in a democratic and equitable digital society. Across the globe, governments, nonprofits, educators, and tech companies are working to improve media knowledge, reduce the digital divide, and strengthen public critical thinking skills. Efforts to build media literacy often begin in the classroom. In the United States, Common Sense Media provides a free digital citizenship curriculum for K–12 schools, focusing on evaluating online sources, avoiding misinformation, and understanding data privacy.
